Love is not simple and easy. It’s the hardest thing. If we read our Bibles, we see the hard thing called love lived out in the life of Jesus and the apostles and many of the champions of the Bible. Love is hard because it requires us to humble ourselves. It requires us to put ourselves aside. Yes, we are the sons and daughters of the Most High God, seated with Him in Christ in Heaven, but just like the God-man put on humanity and humbled Himself, we have to humble ourselves as well.

Yes, joy does mean gladness, but it’s the source of gladness that most truly defines joy. For example, a boss who mistreats you can make you glad when they hand you a bonus check. But that’s not joy. That’s a temporary feeling that is dependent on man, and once the money is spent, that temporary joy is gone.
